Carol Burrows, Chair, A Journey of Hope capital campaign
Carol has had a long and distinguished involvement in the issues affecting seniors in our community. For more than 30 years, she has been a strong and vocal advocate for the lot of seniors: the vulnerable, working to ensure the care and support they need to have a better quality of life, aging in place, housing, age-appropriate health care, income security, disability support – the list is long. Among her many positions, she chaired the Community Care Access Board from 2000 to 2002. She has served as a member of the Successful Aging Task Force and the Aging at Home Task Force. From 2003 to 2005, Carol was Chair of the Board of the Council on Aging (COA).
On April 28, 2010, Carol was the recipient of the COA’s Pioneer award. Her citation read in part "A pioneer is one who takes part in the beginnings of something. From Carol’s early days with COA addressing many seniors’ issues, she has helped shape the services and care that seniors in Ottawa benefit from today".
She brings this same passion and energy to her position as Chair of the Journey of Hope campaign.
Cornerstone Housing for Women Foundation:
It is Industry Canada which has the responsibility to determine the merits of an application for incorporation under the Canada Corporations Act. On November 25, 2009, Cornerstone Housing for Women Foundation (the Foundation) received its Notice of Incorporation.
The founding directors of the Foundation are Peggy Lister, President and Treasurer, David Burns, Vice President and Robin MacKay, Secretary. See the full list of Cornerstone Foundation Board of Directors.
With A Journey of Hope campaign already underway at the time of incorporation the Foundation turned its attention to setting up its operating procedures so that its objects could be fulfilled: to provide and maintain property and facilities for the new Cornerstone facility and to receive funds to achieve this purpose.
The Foundation meets regularly to receive reports on the progress of the building project and the capital campaign from four ex-officio members: Carol Burrows, Campaign Chair, Deborah Edwards, Project Development consultant, Douglas Mallalieu, Cornerstone Accountant and Betsy Clarke, Campaign Director.
